Backyard Pictures

Backyards are a place for you to relax, be with the kids, and entertain friends. The next few pictures will show fairly heavily planted yards. They are definitely beautiful but you would be surprised how little work they are. The first year is a lot of work because you need to get rid of all the weeds and establish the plants. After, you need to weed once every other  week for about an hour. I do know of people that spend 2 to 3 hours every day. Doing what I am not certain. Provided you get in early in the season to do your weeding and do a thorough clean up in fall the summer season truly is easy.

Pre-planning is important to have plants that will grow in your yard example shady, dry, moist etc. The plants should have colour for the spring, summer and fall. To find lists of these plants look at the plants lists page on this website Plant Lists

Mountain Walk theme

This backyard has no grass. Instead it has a stream and pond, bark chip path , shrubs as a base with perennials through out. One of my favourite yards

Continuing Care Centre

So often centres are drab. With a little design residences can enjoy summer as they always had

A perennial base

My yard of a few years back. I was influenced strongly by herbal gardening at the time. I used annual pots in the garden to add new colour each year. This yard was 3 years old in this picture

Same yard

One month earlier. Perennials planted by height

Pergola

Pergolas are different from gazebos in that they have an open roof. They are becoming very popular as additions on decks or for sunny areas in backyards

Patio Retreat1

Having a little patio to just get away for a bit is pure luxury

Patio Retreat1a

Scene from the back the colours are primarily yellow tempered with white and spots of pink for contrast

Shade Garden

This garden has a beautiful path, deck and firepit beside the forest. The beds are filled with shade plants like hosta, astilbe and hydrangeas

Sloping Yard1a

In the third year all the plants reach a full maturity that can be breath taking

Sloping Yard1b

Don't forget to add some ornaments to the yard to add interest points
