Front yard Pictures

Fifteen years ago landscape schools were still teaching that front yards were suppose to be green spaces with shrubs around the foundation and mostly grass. Today, front yards are filled with colour, ornaments and style. For new houses in architecturally controlled areas you often must have two trees and a certain number of shrubs. This makes things difficult at times but you still have a lot of play room. Think about adding long term colour through the use of different shrubs, perennials and some annuals.

Tulips

Tulips and perennials add an amazing spirit boost in the spring

Summer change 2002

After the spring colour, perennials add a new colour change during the summer

Annual Colour 2002

This area has small front yards where shrubs would be a little too big. Perennials and annuals add nice changing colour for the entire season

Mixed Mulches

This yard will eventually be covered in perennials. The mulches help keep the plants moist and weed free until the perennials reach maturity

Foundation Planting

Within one year the garden went from green with spots of blue to full colour all year round

Curved Lines

What was green grass has slowly changed over the last 5 years one bed at a time to mass, colour, and variety.

All Green

This yard was planted in nothing but shrubs and trees. It was nice but always the same. The beds were widened, curved, and edged in brick

Cottage garden1

Truly my favourite yard. Colour that starts from May 1 right through October and into winter

This is what you see when you walk out of the gate

Rectangular Design1

Not often that I get to do a straight line design. But turned out so well

Rectangular Design1a

Not overly useful but the little front patio provided a very important focal point to this small front yard
