Centaurea montana - Mountain Bluet

Asteraceae, Compositae

Preferences:

European perennial that likes full sun, light well drained soil , most species are drought tolerant. In lower light conditions the flower production decreases.

Cultural Practices:

Propagation - Sow at 15 degrees for 1 to 2  weeks. The rate of growth is fast and frequent division is needed either in spring or in fall.

Landscape Value:

Other plants are Centaurea cyanus - Cornflower, and Centaurea macrocephala - This is a tall perennial with yellow flower heads that start out looking like brown paper balls. Does need to be babied a little when transplanting otherwise it will just die. Not as hardy as the C. montana.
