Cosmos - Cosmos bipinnatusstolen picture
Preferences: Originally from Mexico to Brazil. Cosmos do better and have more flowers in full sun, dry infertile soil with sharp drainage, avoid exposure to wind otherwise it gets an odd shape and doesn't stand upright. Cultural Practices: Propagation - Sow on April 15 at 21 - 27 degrees C for 7 - 10 days. Cultural - Avoid over watering and fertilizing or flowering will decrease. These plants get huge and are a lot of work to remove in the Fall. Landscape Value: Common Varieties - Imperial Pink (3', w/ 3.5" flowers), Ladybird series (12"), Sensation Mix (3' -4'), Sunny gold (1') Sunny red (dwarf), Newer variety Chocolate (2' deep mahogany) Design: This is an excellent background plant or for fill in difficult areas, will self seed. Do not use this plant for people who like clean lines. This plant is messy and is more for wild mass of colour. Often this is a main stay in cottage style design. |
