Filipendula ulmaria - Meadowsweet

Preferences:

A European perennial that likes partial shade to full sun, with moist soil, does well in all types of soil. In richer soil you will get larger plants

Cultural Practices:

Propagation - Sow seeds in February or March at 10 - 13 degrees, usually take up to 3 years to flower. Most often they are divided in the fall.

Landscape Value:

Other Plants - Filipendula rubra 'Venusta' a pink selection. It tends to be leggy and needs to be supported, although often preferred in the garden.

Herbal Use - Contains methyl salicylate which was extracted in the 1830's, aspirin (named after Spirea) was synthesized 60 years later by bayer. It has anti-inflammatory, diuretic actions and promotes sweating. Harvest the tops while flowering in summer.
