Sedum spectabile 'Autumn Joy' - Stonecrop

Crassulaceae

K. Napora

Preferences:

Japanese and primarily a horticultural perennial. 1 1/2' to 2' tall with an erect clumping habit. Prefers full sun to very light shade in any soil but is better in dry well drained soil.

Cultural Practices:

Propagation: As these are mainly horticultural crops they do not come true from seed. Propagation is generally through stem cuttings in late summer. Or clump division in spring. Something that is very easy to do is to cut back the stems in mid fall. Put the stems on the floor of a very cool basement and in December the nodes will begin to sprout, they can then be cut up and potted.

Landscape Value:

There are very few choices for fall flowers. This is one of the best ones. It has a very clean formal look. Works well in combination with Astilbe pumila, Echinacea, grasses, Asters and mums.

There are hundreds of different kinds of small horizontal growing sedums which usually have a yellow or red flower
