Thymus pulegioides - Thyme

Lamiaceae, Labiatae

Preferences:

European Perennial; 3" to 4" tall; mat forming groundcover. Thyme prefers full sun in a well drained soil. Poor soil is preferred.

Cultural Practices:

Propagation: Sow seeds at 13 - 18C for 14 days or up to 30 days under lights. The seeds come up quickly but then the seedlings slow down and take their time growing. Clump division is best done in spring although I have moved them at any time and been successful.

Landscape Value:

Thymus vulgaris: this plant is the herb used in cooking and is generally treated as an annual.

Thymus praecox subsp. articus - traditionally used as a goundcover

Thymus pseudolanuginosus (Wholly Thyme) very mat forming and excellent in rock gardens and patios

Thymus serpyllum var. vulgaris (T. X citriodorus) powerful lemon scent, fast growing mat.
