Small ponds designed for inside

What is nice about small ponds is that you can be amazingly creative. From simply one pot pouring into another and splashing into a small pool to fountains simmering over and gently running down the side to bring colour to rocks below.

The most important thing to remember when building a small pond is the sound. Outside the sound can be muffled by wind, birds, etc. Inside though if the sound is too strong it can be a very strong irritant. I suggest getting the smallest pump possible (opposite to what you would do outside) and then break the water as much as possible. The sound should be an ever so gentle rain in the background. So often though you hear a pee sound from store bought waterfalls, which I can make for free. Take a look at the different pictures each one is built for colour and a gentle rhythm. You can thus have it running all day as you would a radio without ever noticing it. You should be soothed by the pond never distracted by it.

Some of the pictures are of scans taken from past photos before I had a digital camera so they may be a little distorted. Click on the picture to see them full size.

ROX base

For indoor ponds I like to use the Rox system to create the pool. In this way I can create a splash which adds to the texture of the sound

Colour

Within the pools I like to use the different coloured stones to bring sparkle and interest whether the pond is on or not

Metal

Copper Flute used at top. My interest in indoor ponds mainly comes from my interest in Feng Shui. I believe a pond should have all the elements of wood, water, stone, metal and light.

Courtyard

In a condo area sometimes there is no yard. This client had a beautiful entrance which lent itself perfectly to a water feature

Sierra Mix

Here the stone was meant to match her pot. The pot is filled with water and then overflows and splashes into the pool below

Veranda

Here there was only a small veranda. This pond still has all the elements represented through colour. Placed on the left side of the door (looking out) brings luck and prosperity to the household. (Pot Ikea, rocks Rona, Pump Canar)
